How much is a taxi from Mayfield to Heathrow?
A taxi from Mayfield to Heathrow Airport is a fixed £130 with Mayfield Airport Taxis, covering all terminals and agreed at booking rather than metered. Heathrow's own drop-off charge, from £7, is paid at the barrier and is separate from our fare.
Heathrow is a genuinely long run from this part of East Sussex, and the £130 says so rather than hiding it. Drivers leave Mayfield north on the A267 towards Tunbridge Wells, join the A21, and then commit to the M25 for the western side of London before turning off onto the airport spur.
The western M25 is the whole story
That stretch between the M23 and the M4 is the busiest length of motorway in the country and it does not degrade gently. Between roughly 6:30am and 9:30am, and again from 3:30pm to 7pm, it can absorb half an hour or more with very little warning. An incident there has nowhere useful to divert to once you are committed.
Mayfield compounds it, because the journey starts with the A267 — a single-carriageway road with no parallel route — before you even reach the motorway. Two constrained roads in series is why we build a wider buffer into Heathrow pickups than anything else except Luton, and why we ask for your flight time rather than the time you would like to leave. For an early Heathrow departure we would rather set off before the motorway fills than try to drive through it.
Heathrow terminals are not interchangeable
Heathrow's terminals sit in two clusters, far enough apart that arriving at the wrong one is a real problem rather than a nuisance. Terminals 2 and 3 are together in the central area, connected on foot and by shuttle, so a mistake between those two is recoverable. Terminals 4 and 5 are separate sites with their own approach roads, each some distance from the central area and from each other.
All of them cost the same £130 — there is no surcharge for the further ones — but we do need to know which. Your terminal is printed on your booking confirmation, and airlines occasionally move, so it is worth a check the night before.
For arrivals we track the inbound flight and time the pickup against the actual landing. Long-haul into Heathrow means immigration and baggage reclaim can run well past touchdown, so we watch rather than guess. Your driver meets you inside the terminal and helps with luggage as standard, which matters more on this route than most — Heathrow is where the big cases and the awkward hours arrive.
Heathrow publishes its current drop-off charge, terminal guides, airline-to-terminal listings and live arrivals on its official site at heathrow.com. Those airport-set charges are separate from our fare.
Which Heathrow Terminal Do You Need?
Terminals 2 & 3
The central terminal area, reached through the main airport tunnel. The two buildings connect on foot and by shuttle, so a mistake between these two is recoverable. Most European and many long-haul carriers operate from here.
Terminals 4 & 5
Separate sites with their own approach roads, each some distance from the central area and from each other. Being dropped at the wrong one of these costs a rail transfer and a serious dent in your check-in buffer.
Do you charge more for Heathrow Terminal 5?
No. Mayfield Airport Taxis charges the same fixed £130 to every Heathrow terminal, including Terminals 4 and 5 despite their separate approach roads. There is no terminal surcharge, no out-of-hours premium and no surge pricing. Tell us the terminal at booking so your driver takes the right spur.
Heathrow Transfer Pricing
| Vehicle | Passengers | Luggage | Fare |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saloon | Up to 4 | 2 medium cases + hand luggage | £130 |
| Estate | Up to 4 | Oversized or additional cases | £130 |
| Minibus | 6–8 | One case each plus hand luggage | Quoted at booking |
The £130 does not change for traffic on the M25, the time of day, or a delayed landing. No surge, no night rate, no terminal surcharge. The only extra is Heathrow's own drop-off charge, from £7, collected at the barrier.
Why does Heathrow cost £130 when Gatwick is £80?
Distance and the roads involved. Gatwick is about 29 miles from Mayfield on cross-country roads. Heathrow means the A267, then the A21, then the western M25 to the far side of London — a much longer drive on the country's most congested motorway, plus the empty return leg your driver makes afterwards.

Vehicle Options for This Route
Saloon
The standard car for the £130 fare. Four passengers with two medium cases and hand luggage between them.
Estate
Same £130, more boot space. Worth asking for on this route in particular, since Heathrow long-haul tends to mean bigger cases than a short European hop.
Minibus
Six to eight passengers in one vehicle rather than two cars, usually cheaper per head. Quoted individually. See minibus transfers →
How much luggage fits in a standard airport taxi?
A saloon comfortably takes four passengers with two medium suitcases and hand luggage between them. Four adults with four large cases need an estate or a minibus. Tell Mayfield Airport Taxis your bag count at booking and we assign the right vehicle — the £130 Heathrow fare is the same either way.
Heathrow Transfer Questions
How much does a taxi to Heathrow cost?
From Mayfield it is a fixed £130 with Mayfield Airport Taxis, covering up to four passengers in a saloon or estate to any Heathrow terminal. The price is confirmed at booking and does not move afterwards. Heathrow's drop-off charge, from £7, is collected separately by the airport.
Is it better to take a taxi or Uber from Heathrow?
For a village like Mayfield, a pre-booked taxi is the more reliable option. Ride-hailing prices rise with demand and a long-haul arrival often lands into exactly that. A booked car is already assigned to your flight number, waits inside the terminal, and holds the £130 whether you land on time or four hours late.
Is Uber cheaper than a taxi in the UK?
It varies by route, hour and demand, which is the point. App pricing is dynamic, so the same journey can cost very different amounts on two mornings. Mayfield Airport Taxis quotes £130 to Heathrow regardless. If you are comparing, check the app quote at the hour you would actually travel.
How much does it cost to go to Heathrow by Uber?
We cannot quote another operator's fare, because app prices change minute to minute with demand, weather and driver supply. What we can tell you is ours: £130 fixed from Mayfield, agreed at booking, with no surcharge for the M25, the terminal or the time of day.
Can Ubers go to Heathrow?
Ride-hailing does serve Heathrow, but the weak point for Mayfield passengers is the village end rather than the airport. Apps advertise coverage everywhere; actual driver availability in rural East Sussex before dawn is unverified and inconsistent. A pre-booked car is assigned in advance instead.
What is the cheapest way to get to Heathrow from Mayfield?
Rail rarely wins on this route. Heathrow sits on the far side of London, so the train means reaching a station, parking for the trip, a train into the capital, crossing it, then a further leg out west — two or three changes with luggage. For two or more people the fixed £130 usually costs less.
Which Heathrow terminal do you cover?
All of them, at the same £130. Terminals 2 and 3 sit together in the central area; Terminals 4 and 5 are separate sites with their own approach roads. Tell us which at booking, because a mistake between the outer terminals costs a rail transfer and a chunk of your check-in buffer.
Is the Heathrow drop-off charge included in the fare?
No. The drop-off charge is set and collected by Heathrow Airport, not by us, and starts from £7 depending on the terminal and how long the vehicle stays in the zone. Your £130 covers the journey. Heathrow publishes the current rate on its own website.
Can I hire an 8-seater taxi to Heathrow?
Yes. We run minibuses for group transfers from Mayfield to Heathrow, typically six to eight passengers with a case each. Group fares are quoted individually because passenger numbers and luggage volume change the vehicle needed. Call 01892 308080 or WhatsApp 07741 041293.
What happens if my Heathrow flight is delayed?
Nothing you need to manage. Give us the flight number at booking and we monitor it, then move the pickup ourselves so your driver arrives when you actually land. The £130 does not change because of a delay, and no waiting charge is added on top.
Do you collect from Heathrow for the journey home?
Yes, and the fare is the same £130 in that direction. Your driver meets you inside the terminal rather than in a car park, and helps with luggage. Book the return alongside the outbound leg so both are confirmed and tied to your flight number.
How early should I leave Mayfield for a Heathrow flight?
We work back about two and a half hours from a short-haul departure and three for long-haul, then add the drive and a buffer for the M25 and the A267. That often means leaving before the motorway fills rather than driving through it. Tell us the flight and we set the time.
Do you charge extra for early morning or late night Heathrow runs?
No. The £130 is the same at 3am as at 3pm. There is no night rate, no out-of-hours premium and no weekend surcharge — which matters, because metered and app-based pricing both rise at precisely the hours airport passengers need to travel.
Is it worth booking an airport transfer in advance?
Yes. Mayfield is a small village with limited on-demand cover, so same-day cars are not always available, particularly for early departures. A day or more of notice secures your vehicle and locks the £130. Mayfield Airport Taxis takes bookings 24/7 on 01892 308080.
