Which London airport is closest to Mayfield?
Gatwick, about 29 miles away, roughly 40 to 55 minutes by road. It is also the cheapest of the five at a fixed £80. London City follows at £125, then Heathrow and Stansted level at £130, and Luton at £150.
What is the cheapest way to get to a London airport from Mayfield?
It depends how many of you are travelling. One person with time and light luggage may do better by train from a nearby station. Two or more, or anyone leaving before the early trains run, usually pay less door to door — a fixed £80 Gatwick fare split two ways beats two tickets plus parking.
What is the difference between a taxi and a private hire vehicle?
A hackney carriage can be hailed in the street or picked up at a rank. A private hire vehicle must be booked in advance through an operator and cannot legally be flagged down. Airport transfers from villages are private hire work, which is why every journey is arranged and priced beforehand.
Why is a short ride-hailing trip sometimes so expensive?
Because app pricing responds to live demand rather than distance. When few drivers are available and many people want cars — early mornings, bad weather, after a delayed arrival — the multiplier rises. A pre-booked fixed fare is set before any of that happens and does not move afterwards.
Are ride-hailing apps reliable for airports from Mayfield?
Apps advertise nationwide coverage, but driver density in a village of under four thousand people is a different matter from coverage in a town. Before dawn — when most airport departures need collecting — availability is unverified and inconsistent. A pre-booked car is assigned in advance instead.
Which company is best for an airport taxi?
Judge on four things: is the fare fixed before you travel, is flight tracking included rather than charged, does a real person answer the phone, and does the quote cover waiting, luggage and the return leg. Compare on the total rather than the headline number.
Booking
How do I arrange an airport taxi?
Call 01892 308080 or WhatsApp 07741 041293 with your pickup address, the airport and terminal, the date, your flight number and how many passengers and bags. We quote a fixed fare on the call and set the pickup time from your departure slot. No app, no account, no deposit.
How do I know my booking is confirmed?
A booking is confirmed once we have agreed both the fare and the pickup time with you on the call. Nothing is left open to be settled later, and neither figure changes afterwards. If you are unsure, ring 01892 308080 and we will read the booking back to you.
Do I need to give you my flight number?
Not for a price, but it is the most useful thing you can give us. With it we can see whether your flight is early, on time or delayed and move the pickup ourselves. Without it we are working from a scheduled time that may no longer be accurate when you land.
Should I pre-book a taxi to the airport?
Yes, particularly from a village with no railway station. Same-day cars from Mayfield are not guaranteed, especially before dawn when most departures need collecting. Booking ahead secures the vehicle and locks the fixed fare, and Mayfield Airport Taxis takes bookings 24 hours a day.
Vehicles & Coverage
Which vehicle will I get?
A saloon by default, which takes up to four passengers with two medium cases and hand luggage. An estate if your bag count needs the boot space, at the same fare. A 6 to 8 seater minibus for groups, quoted separately. We assign the vehicle from the numbers you give us at booking.
Does Mayfield have a railway station?
No. The nearest stations are some miles away, which is why any rail journey to an airport starts with a drive and a car park. For most Mayfield passengers, especially those travelling in pairs or with heavy luggage, a door-to-door fixed fare works out both simpler and cheaper.
Do you cover the villages around Mayfield?
Yes. We collect from Five Ashes, Rotherfield, Frant, Wadhurst, Crowborough, Heathfield, Ticehurst and Burwash, plus Tunbridge Wells. Fares from neighbouring villages differ from the published Mayfield prices because the distances differ, so call 01892 308080 for a fixed quote.
